  • 2 salmon steaks
  • 500g sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 small red chilli, deseeded and finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • salt and pepper for seasoning


  1. Preheat the oven to 180 oC
  2. Season the salmon steaks with salt and pepper
  3. Bake in the oven for about 12 minutes
  4. Remove from the oven, remove the skin and flake into chunks
  5. Boil the sweet potato chunks for about 15 minutes in a pan of salted water
  6. Drain away the water and mash the potatoes
  7. Gently fry the diced onion, garlic and chilli for about 3 minutes
  8. Mix together the flaked salmon, sweet potato and onion mix
  9. Season to taste with salt and pepper
  10. Shape into 4 small patties
  11. Gently fry in a shallow pan for about 5 minutes on each side
